Oak Creek Country Club - Sedona

May 4th & 5th

Shotgun start both days

1:00pm Saturday

8:00am Sunday

Let's get out of the heat and head to the hills for an overnight at Sedona.  Oak Creek is in great shape and offers a great venue for our member member this year.  Tournament is open to all members.  However, a separate Calcutta run by Michael Savoie (details below) will have qualifications on teams that can compete for the separate prize pool.  If you want to participate in the Calcutta, be sure your team meets the qualifications outlined under "Calcutta".

Members are responsible for making their own lodging arrangements.

Format:

First Round: Pinehurst Modified Alternate Shot (Chapman)

Second Round: Better Ball

  • MAXIMUM course handicap of 18 allowed per player (Better Ball round only)
  • New Members (less than 20 events played) MUST have a partner who has an established SGL index (20 events played or more)

BETTER BALL NET HANDICAP:

85% of each player’s course handicap

Example 1:

Player A’s course handicap: 6

(6 x .85 = 5.1) = 5

Player B’s course handicap: 15

(15 x .85 = 12.75) = 13

Example 2:

Player A’s course handicap 2

(2 x .85 = 1.7) = 2

Player B’s course handicap 28

(28 x .85 = 23.8) = 18*

* Lower of 18 or calculation or 85% of course handicap

PINEHURST HANDICAP:

60% of the A player’s course handicap

40% of the B player’s course handicap

Example 1:

Player A’s course handicap 6

(6 x .60) = 3.6

Player B’s course handicap 15

(15 x .4) = 3.0

(3.6 + 3.0 = 6.6)

Scramble Team Handicap: 7

Example 2:

Player A’s course handicap 2

(2 x 0.6) = 1.2

Player B’s course handicap 28

(28 x .0.4) = 9.6

(1.2 + 9.6 = 10.8)

Team Handicap: 11

The handicap committee reserves the right in a rare circumstance to adjust any player or team’s handicap it deems appropriate prior to the event in order to protect integrity of the field.

Calcutta Team Qualifications:

HIstorically, the calcutta generates a significant side pot outside the bounds of the SGL tournament.  Due to these increased payouts, certain qualifications have been established to ensure a fair outcome for members who have invested monies outside the league.  These qualifications do not apply to the tournament itself and any members are free to play with any other members regardless of the number of events played.

For the calcutta only the following qualifications have been established:

  1. New members in 2024 must have competed in 8 tournaments.
  2. Returning members must have competed in 8 tournaments in the past 12 months and 4 tournaments in 2024.
  3. And deviations to 1 & 2 will be determined by the Calcutta sponsors

Calcutta Rules:

  1. Teams will be randomly auctioned off and everyone will have an opportunity to bid on each team.  You must be playing in the event to participate in the calcutta.
  2. Minimum starting bid is $50.00
  3. There is no maximum bid.
  4. No limit on number of teams purchased.
  5. Participation is encouraged.  If you cannot or do not attend, your team will be auctioned off with a minimum starting bid of $250.  If nobody buys your team, you may purchase it for the average price paid for the other teams.  The average price paid will be rounded up to the nearest $50.00.  So if the calcutta purse is $15,000 and 16 teams were bought, the average price is $937.50 rounded up to $950.00
  6. Team members who do not buy their own team will have the opportunity to buy back half their team for 50% of the purchase price. You must settle with the owner of your team prior to the start of the first round.  The option to buy back half your team expires at 5:00PM May 19th.  However, if you were not present for the Calcutta, the owner has the discretion to keep 100% of your team.
  7. Cash is due at upon conclusion of the auction. Venmo or other forms of payment will not be accepted.
  8. In the event of a tie, there will be no playoff to determine payouts for the calcutta.  The playoff mentioned above is not part of the calcutta.  Payouts will be split evenly between tied teams. (ie. a 2 way tie for first will split 1st and 2nd place money).

Payouts

Day One Pinehurst

1st Place - $1,000

2nd Place - $500

Day Two Better Ball

1st Place - $1,000

2nd Place - $500

Overall

1st Place - 50% of the remaining prize pool

2nd Place - 30% of the remaining prize pool

3rd Place - 20% of the remaining prize pool

NO ROSTER CHANGES WILL BE ALLOWED AFTER THE CONCLUSION OF THE BIDDING.  If your team shows up incomplete or a replacement player is added due to unforeseen circumstances, your team will be removed from the Calcutta and all monies will be returned to the Team Owner.
