SGL HANDICAP POLICY FOR NEW MEMBERS

In order to protect the integrity of the Scottsdale Golf League, the SGL Board has implemented the following policy with regard to new member handicapping.

  1. The new member must have an established GHIN Index with a minimum of 20 scores posted within the previous 24 months.
  2. The new member is required to play their first 3 official events at *scratch (0). During these 3 events, the new member will be establishing their SGL league index.
  3. While establishing this new league index, the maximum allowable score to post will be gross double bogey.
  4. After 3 events, the new member will be given a temporary SGL League Index. That index will be calculated utilizing the USGA formula in the table below. In addition, after the 3rd event the maximum allowable score will change to net double bogey.
  5. Following the 3rd event, the new member will either play with their new SGL index OR their established GHIN Index, whichever is lower. This process will continue until the new member has participated in 20 official league events.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out the SGL Handicap chairman, Pete Schaaf: pete@thesgl.org or 480-721-8082 (cell).

*If a new member has an index of lower than scratch, they will be issued an adjustment of -3 strokes for their first 3 events. For example, if they are a +1.2 index, they will play to a +4.2 for the first 3 events.
